Quality of life and Sustainability

The two terms ‘quality of life’ and ‘sustainable development’ will be decisive for the first half of the 21st century.
Quality of life is more than financial well-being, without sustainable economy mankind wastes its resources of life.

Since 1992 we have been working on the development of a formula for quality of life. This formula consists of the elements freedom and peace, the amount of the achieved wealth, the level of education, the health condition. The aesthetic dimension of life belongs for us to the objective quality of life as well as the variety of species and culture.

Beside the objective measurable quality of life the subjective felt quality of life has to be taken into consideration. It shows in the individual satisfaction, in the amount of free disposable time and the perceived sense of life.

Our concept for quality of life was used in different projects. In 1995 we published the '1. Lebensqualität-Atlas' for Germany. According to our concept quality of life was measured in Austria and Poland. For many districts in Germany location reports up to location marketing concepts were made, based on the concept for quality of life.

From 2004-2006 we carried out the competition "Zukunftsfähige Kommune" together with the Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Agenda-Transfer and the ECOLOG-Institut. There our concept for quality of life was combined with the objectives of the local agenda 21.

Currently we are working on the further development of the concept of "Environmental justice" and we are engaging in the research for happiness as addition to the pure material consideration of social development. Another focus of our work is on surveys on the development of Corporate Social Responsibility as well as the enhancement of sustainability marketing.
